Types of Surgeries We Perform

Spay and Neuter
Spaying and neutering are among the most common and most important surgeries we perform. Beyond preventing unwanted litters, these procedures reduce, and sometimes even eliminate the risk of certain cancers, and can prevent pyometra – a life threatening infection. They can also eliminate the stress of heat cycles in females, and often reduce roaming, marking, and aggression-related behaviors in males.

Soft Tissue Surgery
Soft tissue procedures cover a wide range of needs, including mass removals and biopsies, bladder stone removal, hernia repair, foreign body removal, abdominal exploratory surgeries, and more. Orthopedic Surgery
We offer a number of orthopedic procedures for pets with bone, joint, or ligament injuries. Whether your dog has torn a cruciate ligament, your cat has fractured a bone, or your pet is dealing with a chronic joint problem, our team will walk you through the options and help you choose the right path forward.

Dental Extractions and Oral Surgery
When a tooth is too damaged or infected to save, removal is often the kindest option. We offer surgical extractions and other oral procedures as part of our full-service dental care.

Cesarean Sections
For dogs and cats requiring assistance during delivery, we provide both scheduled and emergency cesarean sections. These procedures require careful planning and an experienced team for both the mother and the puppies or kittens being delivered.

Emergency Surgery
Some situations can’t wait. During regular office hours, our Colerain, West Chester, and Ft. Wright locations are equipped to perform emergency surgery for acute illness or injury, including bloat, urinary blockages, traumatic injuries, and other time-sensitive conditions.

We take anesthesia seriously. Every patient is monitored continuously throughout their procedure by a dedicated team member, with vital signs tracked from induction through recovery. Sedation protocols are tailored to your individual pet, including species, age, breed, weight, and any underlying health conditions.

Pain management is just as individualized. We select pain treatments specifically for each animal based on the procedure and your pet’s unique needs before, during, and after surgery. Our team will be accessible following the surgery for any follow up pain or medication questions to ensure your pet is comfortable and recovering well.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Surgery

Before Surgery

In the days leading up to the procedure, we’ll go over fasting instructions, medication changes, and what to expect on the day of surgery. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork helps us confirm your pet is ready, and our team is available to answer any questions along the way.

Day of Surgery

You’ll drop your pet off in the morning and we’ll be in touch throughout the day. Our team performs a final pre-surgical exam, places an IV catheter, administers anesthesia, and begins the procedure. During the operation, a trained team member monitors your pet’s vital signs continuously.

Recovery

After surgery, your pet rests in a quiet recovery area where our team can watch them closely as they wake up. Most pets go home the same day with pain medication and clear written discharge instructions. We’ll walk you through everything you need to know about caring for your pet at home, including activity restrictions, incision care, follow-up appointments, and warning signs to watch for.

After You Get Home

Recovery is where families do the real work, and we’re here to support you through it. If you have questions or concerns once you’re home, we’re a phone call away. Our complete in-house and online pharmacy makes it easy to refill pain medications or other prescriptions, either at the clinic or delivered to your door. Suture removal and recheck appointments are typically scheduled 10 to 14 days after surgery.
