A few things that make refills go smoothly:

Request before you run out. Give a few days of lead time, particularly for compounded medications or items that need to be ordered. For online orders, factor in shipping.

Expect periodic rechecks. Many chronic medications require an exam or bloodwork at regular intervals before we can authorize continued refills. This is not a formality. Long term medications can affect kidney and liver function, and doses often need adjusting as a pet ages or their condition changes. Our in network laboratory makes this monitoring quick and easy.

Heartworm testing. Annual heartworm testing is required before refilling preventatives. Giving a preventative to a dog who already has heartworm can cause a serious reaction, so the test protects your pet.

Keep prescriptions current. Veterinary prescriptions have expiration dates and require a valid veterinarian client patient relationship, which generally means your pet has been examined within the past year.
