3 Easter Dangers to Pets – Medical Minute

When you see the Easter Bunny, you know it’s time for Easter! Easter is a great holiday, but make sure you’re aware of these dangers for your pet during this time of year.

Threat #1: Candy
One thing you need to watch out for is candy. In those colorful easter eggs, a lot of times there’s going to be candy hidden in them around the house. They might contain chocolate, which we all know is dangerous for our pets, but also sugar-free candy can contain xylitol, which is extremely toxic for our pets. Make sure the candy is kept away from your furry friends.

Threat #2: Easter Baskets
Another object that may seem like no big deal but is actually very dangerous is this Easter grass. We don’t see this as often anymore, but cats like to swallow that fluffy Easter grass that can be found in Easter baskets, which can lead to an intestinal obstruction. This can be very, very dangerous for your pets. Stay away from the Easter grass.

Threat #3: Easter Lily
Lastly, if your cat comes into contact with an Easter lily, even if they brush up against the blooms and lick some of the pollen off, that can be fatal to your cat. Keep Easter lilies away from your pets.
